After being unable to play several games for several hours, users on Sony’s online gaming platforms are reporting that they can connect to the service once more.
Users of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles can finally resume playing online games after a significant outage on Sony’s gaming network began on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, the official PSN Service Status page briefly stated that “all services are up and running.” However, as of 8:25 AM ET, the game streaming section was again in the red.
The notification says, “You might experience trouble using games, applications, or network features.” Our goal is to find a quick solution to the problem. I appreciate your patience.
The entire outage, which affected all PlayStation systems across “Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web,” lasted about eight hours. Even while it appears that the issue has mostly been fixed, some players were still complaining about connectivity and communication problems on social media.
Players could not play single-player games that required an internet connection and sign in beforehand, play multiplayer games, or sign in during the outage. Games played offline didn’t seem to be impacted. When I try to start a game on my end, “PS5 error Code WS-116522-7” appears, and the Sony webpage that goes with it states, “The system software is the update failed.”
The only statements regarding the outage coming from a Japanese PlayStation support page on X indicate that Sony has not disclosed the reason for the outage and has scarcely acknowledged it, even on social media. As a result, users and game developers in other regions are left to inform one another about the servers being unavailable.
The problem doesn’t appear connected to the same fault, causing issues with PS5 games’ home screen artwork, which has already been addressed.
